Apple Crisp Chai Latte – The Cozy Fall Drink You Didn’t Know You Needed

The crisp morning we have been having lately have started to get me excited for all the cozy moments around the corner when fall hits. I’ve always been Team Apple when it comes to fall flavors (check out my Pumpkin Cream Cold Foam recipe for the beverage that sometimes turns me to Team Pumpkin). Really though, there’s just nothing like the sweet, slightly tangy flavor of warm apple cider once fall hits. Enter the Apple Crisp Chai Latte—a warm, spiced, gently sweet drink that combines two autumn powerhouses: chai tea and apple cider in the collab I didn’t know I needed.
Get allll your basic fall favorites ready for this one, because this recipe brings the comforting warmth of chai and the nostalgic sweetness of apple crisp together in the most delicious way.
Why Chai and Apple Cider Are a Perfect Match
Chai—an Indian spiced tea blend featuring cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and black pepper—already reads like a celebration of fall. Add apple cider, and it’s like wrapping those warming spices in a freshly baked apple pie hug.
The sweetness and tartness of apple cider enhance the bold, earthy notes in chai, creating a well-balanced, layered flavor profile. Think of it like pairing spice cookies with a mug of cider—but in liquid form.
Together, they mimic the taste of apple crisp: spiced apples, caramel-like sweetness, and a cozy, familiar warmth in every sip.
The Perfect Fall Drink
This Apple Crisp Chai Latte is a little more unique than just a pumpkin spice latte or a hot apple cider, and it’s got all the best reasons to say so. Here’s why it earns a spot in your fall rotation:
- It’s caffeine-optional. Use a decaf chai blend or switch to rooibos chai for a calming evening drink – this and Halloween movies? Yes.
- It’s customizable. Adjust the sweetness or spice to your liking, and top with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel or a decadent cold foam for a dessert like finish.
- It makes your kitchen smell like fall. As it simmers, the aroma is basically a warm hug.
How to Make an Apple Crisp Chai Latte (Step-by-Step)
Follow these easy steps to make the coziest fall latte at home:
Step 1: Brew the Chai
- Use one chai tea bag (or 1 tbsp of loose-leaf chai). My go to bag is this basic chai, my go to loose leaf is Adiago Spiced Apple Chai.
- Steep it in about 1/4 cup of boiling water for 5–7 minutes to create a strong concentrate.
- Remove the tea bag or strain out the leaves (this strainer works amazing!).
Step 2: Heat Apple Cider and Milk
- Combine 1/4 cup of apple cider and 1/2 cup of your preferred milk (dairy or non-dairy).
- Using an electric frother, heat and froth the mixture (absolutely love this frother!) If you don’t have an electric frother, warm the mixture over medium heat until steaming but not boiling.
Step 3: Add Fall Flavors
- Stir in to the tea concentrate:
- 2 teaspoons of brown sugar or maple syrup (optional, but it’s such a yummy sweet treat)
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- A dash of vanilla extract
Step 4: Mix Everything Together
- Pour the brewed chai mixture into the warm cider-milk mixture.
- Stir gently until fully combined.
Step 5: Serve and Garnish
- Pour into your favorite mug.
- Optional toppings: whipped cream, caramel drizzle, cinnamon sprinkle, vanilla sweet cream cold foam, maple cold foam, or brown sugar cold foam.
How to Make It Iced
Want a refreshing version that helps transition from summer for those early fall days? Here’s how:
- Brew the chai extra strong (less water) and let it cool completely. I make enough concentrate for a few glasses at a time, so I add 4 tea bags to ½ cup boiling water. This should make enough concentrate for about 4 glasses.
- Mix the cooled chai with cold apple cider, cold milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sweetener.
- Shake everything in a mason jar.
- Pour over fresh ice in a tall glass and top with a delicious caramel cold foam.
An Apple Crisp Chai Latte captures the essence of fall at first sip. Whether hot or iced, it’s a simple, cozy drink that tastes like autumn in a cup. And as a bonus, it’s not pumpkin!
Try it out, and let me know what you think!
