Homemade Apple Crisp Latte – An Easy Fall Coffee Recipe

There are certain flavors that just taste like fall, and apples and/or apple crisp is pretty high on that list for me. Warm cinnamon, brown sugar, apples, and that delicious buttery oat crumble? Put all of that into a coffee and I am absolutely sold. I am so glad that apple is finally getting it’s time to shine in coffee, because it is, to me, truly the superior fall flavor.
Our Apple Crisp Latte uses our homemade apple crisp syrup as the base, which means you can make this delightful piece of fall absolutely any time you want, right from home. By that I mean, in the afternoon after you feel it’s too late to go out and order a coffee, in January when the apple flavor (and joy) is nonexistent in the outside word, there is no limit to this amazing flavor at home.
If you’re firmly on Team Apple when fall rolls around, this one needs to go into your rotation along with our Apple Crisp Cold Foam, Caramel Apple Cold Foam, and Apple Cider Chai Latte.
What Is an Apple Crisp Latte?
An apple crisp latte is an espresso-based coffee drink flavored with apple, cinnamon, brown sugar, and other warm fall flavors inspired by homemade apple crisp.
Unlike an artificial apple flavored coffee that tastes super fruity, the apple crisp syrup gives this drink more of a baked dessert flavor. You get the apple, but you also get those warm cinnamon and brown sugar notes that make it taste like actual apple crisp.
Add espresso and creamy milk and it turns into one of my favorite homemade fall coffee drinks.
Why You’ll Love This Homemade Apple Crisp Latte
There are plenty of reasons to skip the coffee shop for this one:
- It’s quick. Once your apple crisp syrup is made, the latte comes together in about 5 minutes.
- You control the sweetness. Add a little syrup for subtle apple flavor or an extra splash if you like your fall drinks sweeter.
- It works hot or iced. Make the same recipe whichever way you’re craving it.
- The syrup does all the work. You don’t have to pull out cinnamon, brown sugar, apple juice, and a bunch of other ingredients every time you want a latte.
- It’s easy to customize. Change the milk, add cold foam, or turn it into a chai latte instead.
Ingredients for an Apple Crisp Latte
You only need a few ingredients:
Espresso – Use 1–2 shots of espresso depending on how strong you like your latte. Don’t have an espresso machine? Strong brewed coffee or cold brew concentrate can work, too. The finished drink won’t be exactly the same as a traditional latte, but it’ll still be delicious.
Homemade Apple Crisp Syrup – This is what gives the drink its apple crisp flavor. Our apple crisp syrup combines apple and warm fall flavors into one easy syrup you can keep in the refrigerator and use for lattes, cold foam, chai, and other fall drinks.
Start with about 1–2 tablespoons per latte and adjust from there depending on how sweet you like your coffee.
Milk – Use whichever milk you normally like in your lattes. Whole milk is my go to, but 2%, skim, oat milk, and other milk alternatives can all work.
Optional Toppings
The latte is plenty good on its own, but you can also add:
- Whipped cream
- Cinnamon
- Apple pie spice
- Caramel drizzle
- Apple Crisp Cold Foam
- Salted Caramel Cold Foam
Apple crisp cold foam on top of an apple crisp latte is especially good if you want to go all-in on the fall coffee situation.
How to Make a Hot Apple Crisp Latte
1. Brew the Espresso
Brew 1–2 shots of espresso directly into your mug (love these nespresso pods for ease).
2. Add the Apple Crisp Syrup
Add 1–2 tablespoons of homemade apple crisp syrup to the hot espresso and stir.
Adding the syrup while the espresso is still hot helps everything combine evenly.
3. Steam or Froth the Milk
Heat about ¾ cup of milk and froth it using a milk frother (this one is by far one of my favorite purchases as an adult), steam wand, or your favorite at-home frothing method.
4. Pour It Together
Pour the warm milk over the apple crisp espresso mixture, spooning the foam over the top. Finish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or apple pie spice if you’d like.
That’s it. Homemade apple crisp latte in about five minutes.
How to Make an Iced Apple Crisp Latte
Still 80 degrees outside but emotionally ready for fall? An Iced Latte will save you.
Fill a glass with ice, then add:
- 1–2 shots espresso
- 1–2 tablespoons apple crisp syrup
- About ¾ cup cold milk
Stir everything together and top it with cold foam if desired.
Our Apple Crisp Cold Foam is the obvious choice here, but Salted Caramel Cold Foam would also be SO good with the apple and cinnamon flavors.
How Much Apple Crisp Syrup Should I Add?
I recommend starting with 1 tablespoon of apple crisp syrup and tasting your latte before adding more.
For a lightly sweetened latte, 1 tablespoon may be plenty. If you like sweeter coffee-shop-style drinks or want the apple crisp flavor to really come through, use closer to 2 tablespoons.
That’s one of my favorite things about making flavored lattes at home—you aren’t stuck with a predetermined amount of syrup.
Add Apple Crisp Cold Foam
Want to make this feel extra extra?
Top an iced apple crisp latte with our homemade Apple Crisp Cold Foam. It uses the same apple crisp syrup, so you can make one batch of syrup and use it for both the latte and the foam.
You could also switch things up with Caramel Apple Cold Foam for more of a caramel apple flavor or Salted Caramel Cold Foam for a sweet-and-salty version.
Tips for the Best Homemade Apple Crisp Latte
- Mix the syrup with the espresso first. The heat helps the syrup incorporate into the drink instead of settling at the bottom.
- Adjust the syrup to taste. Homemade coffee is supposed to taste the way you like it.
- Use freshly brewed espresso when possible. Its stronger flavor stands up well to the milk and sweet apple crisp syrup.
- Froth your milk. Even a quick froth makes a homemade latte feel much more like something you’d get at a coffee shop.
- Keep apple crisp syrup in the refrigerator. Once the syrup is already made, you can make fall coffee drinks in just a few minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make an apple crisp latte without an espresso machine?
Yes. Strongly brewed coffee or cold brew concentrate can be substituted for espresso. I also really love this instant espresso powder. Use less coffee than you would for a regular cup so its flavor doesn’t get lost once you add the milk and syrup.
Can I make an apple crisp latte iced?
Absolutely. Add espresso, apple crisp syrup, milk, and ice to a glass and stir. Top it with apple crisp cold foam for an extra creamy iced fall coffee.
What milk is best for an apple crisp latte?
Whole milk gives the latte a rich, creamy texture, but you can use whatever milk you prefer. Oat milk is especially good with the apple, cinnamon, and brown sugar flavors.
Is an apple crisp latte the same as an apple latte?
They’re similar, but an apple crisp latte has more going on than just apple flavor. The apple crisp syrup adds warm baking/spice and brown sugar notes that make the drink taste more like an apple dessert.
Can I make the apple crisp syrup ahead of time?
Yes! That’s actually the easiest way to make this recipe. Prepare a batch of homemade Apple Crisp Syrup ahead of time and store it according to the recipe directions. Then you can make individual lattes whenever you want one.
Easy Homemade Fall Coffee
This homemade Apple Crisp Latte is one of those recipes that feels special without actually requiring much work. Once you have homemade apple crisp syrup waiting in the fridge, you’re basically five minutes away from a warm, cozy fall latte whenever the craving hits.
Make it hot, pour it over ice, add cold foam, or turn it into a chai—the apple crisp flavor works with all of them. Happy Fall!
