Fizzing Chalk Paint

Make colorful homemade fizzing chalk paint with baking soda, cornstarch, and food coloring. Spray with vinegar for an exciting STEAM activity kids will love.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ¾ –1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp dish soap liquid
  • Food coloring
  • White vinegar for spraying

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Muffin tin or small bowls
  • Paintbrushes
  • Spray bottle, dropper, or pipette

Method
 

  1. Whisk together baking soda and cornstarch.
  2. Add liquid dish soap to this mixture and stir.
  3. Slowly add water until smooth.
  4. Divide into bowls and color with food coloring.
  5. Paint onto the sidewalk or cardstock.
  6. Spray or drip vinegar over the paint.
  7. Watch the colorful fizzing reaction!

Notes

• Best used immediately after mixing.
• Store leftovers for up to 24 hours in the refrigerator.
• Great for preschool, kindergarten, and elementary-aged children.
• Washable food coloring is recommended for easier cleanup.
