I recently celebrated a birthday and apparently getting older has made me no longer want to have to chew my food? I don’t know what it is, but I am into beverages all of a sudden. Coffee has been a big one (duh) and I’ve got a few new cold foam recipes I will share soon but the one thing I’m most excited about is that I am finally getting into fresh juices. I have tried (more than once) to be a juice girl and it just hasn’t stuck until now. So, it’s either my geriatric taste buds (thanks 30’s) or I’ve finally found some good recipes, either way I’m going with it. Officially declaring this as my “juice era” so explore with me the advantages of homemade juices, how to get started, and some delicious recipes to try – including the first ever green juice recipe I actually like.

Why Choose Homemade Juices?

1. Nutrient-Rich: Freshly squeezed juices are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They can help boost your immune system, improve digestion, and enhance overall health.

2. Control Over Ingredients: When you make your own juice, you control what goes in. You can choose organic produce, avoid added sugars, and tailor ingredients to suit your taste and dietary needs.

3. Hydration: Juices are a great way to stay hydrated, especially when infused with hydrating fruits like watermelon and cucumber.

4. Convenience: Juicing can be a quick and easy way to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet, especially for those with busy lifestyles.

Getting Started with Juicing

Essential Equipment

To start juicing at home, you’ll need some basic equipment:

– Juicer: A good-quality juicer is key. Options include centrifugal juicers for speed or masticating juicers for higher nutrient retention. This is the juicer that brought me into my juice era, so I obviously think it’s the best one. Easy to clean, quiet, and fast. Everything I thought juicers would never be.

– Cutting Board and Knife: For prepping your fruits and vegetables.

– Storage Containers: Glass jars or bottles are ideal for storing your juice.

Choosing Your Ingredients

Focus on fresh, seasonal produce for the best flavor and nutrition. Here are some staples to consider:

– Fruits: Apples, oranges, berries, pineapples, and citrus fruits add sweetness and flavor.

– Vegetables: Spinach, carrots, beets, and cucumbers contribute essential nutrients.

– Herbs and Spices: Fresh ginger, mint, or basil can enhance flavor and add health benefits.

Basic Juicing Tips

– Wash Thoroughly: Always wash your fruits and vegetables to remove dirt.

– Experiment: Start with a few ingredients and adjust based on your taste preferences.

– Drink Fresh: Homemade juice is best consumed immediately, but it can be stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours in an airtight container.

Delicious Juice Recipes to Try

1. Green Juice Recipe

– Ingredients:

  – 2 green apples

  – 1 cucumber

  – 1 cup spinach

  – 1/2 lemon (juiced)

  – 1-inch piece of ginger

– Instructions: Juice all ingredients together and serve chilled. This refreshing drink is great for detoxifying the body. Or so they say. All I know is that the ginger is key and so is keeping kale out of here. Kale makes any green juice recipe taste like dirt and don’t think you can convince me otherwise.

2. Tropical Blast Recipe

– Ingredients:

  – 2 oranges

  – 1/2 pineapple

  – 1/2 lemon (juiced)

  – A handful of mint leaves

– Instructions: Juice the oranges and pineapple, then mix in the lemon juice and mint. This energizing juice is perfect for a sunny day.it makes me think him at a posh resort and not in my kitchen with a toddler screaming because his toast has crust. 10/10 recommend.

3. Beet Berry Boost Recipe

– Ingredients:

  – small beetroot

  – 1 cup strawberries

  – 1 apple

  – 1/2 cup water (optional for consistency)

– Instructions: Juice the beetroot, strawberries, and apple. If the juice is too thick, add a bit of water. This vibrant juice is rich in antioxidants and great for stamina, aka making it through a kids-won’t-nap type of day. Also, I love beets and don’t think they taste like dirt so no feedback on if this makes them less dirty tasting for all of you beet haters.

Currently in love with these recipes and excited to try even more! Let me know if you have a favorite that I need to try. I’m thinking my next attempt will be something carrot based because I feel a strong urge to juice a carrot. I’ll be sure to post any winning combos.
