Citrus Medley Simmer Pot

If you love naturally scenting your home, this Citrus Medley Simmer Pot is the ultimate spring refresh. With orange, lemon, lime, and grapefruit, it creates a layered, clean fragrance that feels like sunshine pouring into a freshly cleaned kitchen. And the best part – it does not require a freshly cleaned kitchen! Just pop this on the stove and you’ll FEEL like you accomplished a deep clean without actually having to tackle that project.
After enjoying my Cranberry Orange Simmer Pot in the colder months, this citrus blend offers a refreshing transition into the new sunnier (fingers crossed) season. It’s bright but not overpowering, and entirely natural.
Ingredients for a Citrus Medley Simmer Pot
You’ll need:
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1 lime, sliced
- ½ grapefruit, sliced
- 1–2 sprigs fresh rosemary (optional but beautiful)
- Pssst: Fresh herbs like rosemary or mint also shine in my Lemon Rosemary Simmer Pot recipe.
- Water
- Medium saucepan or small Dutch oven
Optional add-ins:
- Splash of vanilla extract
- Whole cloves
- Fresh mint
- Thin slices of fresh ginger
How to Make a Citrus Medley Simmer Pot
Step 1: Slice Your Citrus
Thinly slice the orange, lemon, lime, and grapefruit. Leave the peels on — that’s where the natural oils are.
Step 2: Add to Pot
Place all citrus slices into your saucepan. Add rosemary if using.
Step 3: Cover with Water
Fill with enough water to fully cover the fruit.
Step 4: Bring to a Gentle Simmer
Bring to a boil, then reduce to low. Leave uncovered.
Within 10–15 minutes, your home will start to smell bright and clean.
Step 5: Maintain the Water Level
Check every 30–45 minutes and add water as needed. Never let it dry out.
You can let it simmer for several hours.
What Each Citrus Adds
- Orange → warmth and subtle sweetness
- Lemon → clean brightness
- Lime → crisp sharpness
- Grapefruit → airy, slightly floral depth
Together, it smells like:
- A freshly cleaned kitchen
- Spring sunshine
- A boutique hotel lobby
- Windows open on a breezy afternoon
It’s simple but fresh and springy – it doesn’t have the warm, cozy feel of winter but rather the fresh breeze type feel of spring. And I am so ready for spring.
When to Use This Spring Simmer Pot
Perfect for:
- Spring cleaning days
- Hosting brunch
- Resetting your home after winter and getting you out of the winter slump
- Neutralizing cooking smells
- Monday “fresh start” energy
Can You Reuse It?
Sure can! Once cooled, store the citrus mixture in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Reheat with fresh water the next day.
You can usually reuse it 2–3 times before the scent fades.
A Simple Spring Reset
This Citrus Medley Simmer Pot is one of those tiny home rituals that makes a big difference. It’s affordable, natural, and instantly shifts the energy of your home. Fresh. Bright. Clean. Spring ready (even if you haven’t gotten around to spring cleaning…in the last few years).
If you try it, you’ll probably end up making it on repeat. It’s a little kitchen/home hack that I keep coming back to.
